Cafe Old Town sits quietly on Rockingham Place in Eastbourne, offering a calm spot to pause whether you’re just stepping out for a quick coffee or settling in for a light lunch. Its unhurried atmosphere makes it a good match for locals looking to unwind during the midday lull or for those wanting a peaceful break from nearby shopping, especially after a trip to Waitrose.

Coffee here clearly holds pride of place, with several visitors drawn by the quality of the cappuccinos and well-crafted espresso-based drinks. The presence of soothing jazz and low-key vibes suggests it’s a place where the background music doesn’t compete but instead encourages lingering over your cup. This makes it a pleasant stop for solo visitors or small groups appreciating a quiet conversation or some downtime with a book.

The menu leans towards simple, wholesome choices — think salads featuring fresh combinations like feta with walnuts and apple, alongside smaller breakfast staples such as poached eggs or cheese on toast. It’s well suited for folks after something light and nourishing rather than a heavy meal. The addition of homey options like a savory cheese and ham muffin or Mexican bean soup signals a focus on straightforward flavors using natural ingredients.

Locals seem to integrate Cafe Old Town into their daily routines in a relaxed fashion, whether grabbing a quick bacon baguette in the morning or enjoying a stew paired with crusty bread after some errands. The casual yet carefully considered setting, complete with local art on the walls, adds a layer of community character without feeling staged.

Those who appreciate a calm environment to recharge midweek or on a quiet weekend afternoon will find this cafe aligns well with those expectations. It doesn’t rush you, and the friendly service adds a welcoming note without overshadowing the simple pleasure of a well-made coffee and uncomplicated fare.

I’m a coffee freak, always on a look-out for some delish cappuccino) I’m rather a strict critic and I must say, the lovely gentleman in that coffee shop made me an absolutely golden cappuccino! The coffee quality is amazing! Thank you so much!

My wife and I popped in for a coffee but just had to have the Basque stew. It was delicious, full of natural ingredients, beans and smoky paprika, nice chunk of crusty bread and butter. Well worth popping in after your Waitrose shop.

Only had a cake and coffee, but atmosphere was just what the doctor ordered- soothing jazz, quiet and relaxed- served fast and low key chill vibe. Local art on walls just added to the vibe. Definitely come again.

What a gem find this little cafe is! Was shopping at Waitrose Old Town so already parked, and we popped in for a quick lunch. Absolutely fab food and also took home 2 slices of the most delicious one-layer chocolate cake. I’ll be back soon!
